Tip of the Week

Pet doors can go through walls too!

Many people don’t realize that pet doors can be used in places other than your people doors. Windows and walls also make for excellent dog doors locations! Many dog owners become excited when they realize that dog doors can be installed into walls, because this greatly increases their installation options.

For example, if the locations of your people doors are not where you want your pet door to be, or if you have an ornate door that you don’t want to cut through, then take it to the next level and consider going through a wall.

Wall doors allow you to more precisely place your pet’s access point to your yard.

Most doors can be turned into wall doors by framing the inside of the wall after you have cut the hole for your pet door. However, for wall installations you are probably better off wall buying a door specifically designed for wall use. I particularly recommend the Plexidor Wall Unit at http://www.dogdoors.com?tip=guru . It is built tough, looks great, and comes with an aluminum tunnel for walls that is adjustable from 4” to 12”

Other considerations include size and placement. For size you should buy the larger size if you are on the borderline of two different sizes. For wall placement, you should be sure to install the Plexidor between wall studs in a frame wall. Concrete or brick walls are typically too difficult for pet door installations.

Quality dog door retailers should be able to help you with the installation process, or you could even hire a handyman to do the work for you.
