How does yogurt as a dog supplement help my dog?

Good Bacteria: Yogurt and Kefir

One common homeopathic dog nutritional supplement is yogurt. It contains "good" bacteria, which can aid in digestion and help keep your dog's digestive system clean and functioning optimally.

Yogurt is also a key in transitioning your dog from kibble or other processed food to a raw diet because of the good bacteria and protein content.

You may want to take your yogurt treatment to the next level and you can do this with a dog supplement called Kefir. Kefir is a cultured milk product like yogurt, but it takes the benefits one step further. Kefir contains friendly bacteria and also colonizes the digestive tract, which helps improve solid wastes, reduces intestinal disorders, reduces gas, and promotes proactive health maintenance. Additionally, it will help with your dog's coat, skin, and reduce anxiety.

*Add a spoonful of acidophilus or naturally cultured yogurt that includes acidophilus to your dog's food to help him digest his meals better or settle an upset stomach.

Our dog just finished her FOURTH round of antibiotics for a wound infection after surgery and a subsequent staph infection of her skin. We started "yogurt therapy" after her last found of antibiotics and it works great! I feel like it helped her build some of her own immunities and her stools are also back to normal. One word of caution, don't overdo it. A teaspoon is plenty of yogurt for any size dog.

I am trying it, because my 13 week yorkie has had loose stools quite often, I have been feeding her Flint river ranch Puppy/Adult dry feed and Eukanuba, for puppies plus my own dehydraded chicken strips and cooked chicken, baby food strained chicken, lamb. but she seems to always have loose stools, I am cutting out the chicken strips and adding the plain yogurt to her baby food, rice mixture. Vet checked her out okay, but I still worry. Any suggestions, email me at JeanieReese@dishmail.net. Thanks, Jeanie/TOTO

Yoghurt is great in small, very small, quantities. But it is absolutely not homeopathic. Dairy products in general are not good for dogs. And watch out - do NOT give your dog human supplements. Vitamin C can be very, very hard on your dog's liver. Dogs produce their own Vitamin C.
