Shopping for a Dog Crate

Dog crates are helpful tools for housetraining your dog. They can be used for training puppies as well as older dogs. If dog housetraining problems are an issue, the crate is a wonderful investment to make. When shopping for a crate, be sure to buy one that is the correct size. Experts typically recommend that the cage be just large enough for the dog to stand up, turn around and sit down in. Anything larger may be too big for housetraining your dog. If the dog is only a puppy, consider purchasing a crate with dividers so that the expense of a growing pup does not become prohibitive. That way the space can be increased as the dog gets bigger. There is a lot of information available about how to crate train a dog, so be sure to find out all of the details prior to getting started for the best chance of success. In the beginning, be sure to associate good things with the crate so that the dog is not afraid of it. Try feeding him his meals inside or offer him a treat if he goes in through the door. A variety of dog cages can be found at competitive prices at your local PETCO.
