January 2, 2004, Newsletter Issue #108: Is it hard to train your dog to use a dog door?

Tip of the Week

Question: Is it difficult to train a pet to use a pet door?
Answer: No. Dog door use typically comes naturally to pets, and so usually it is a relatively simple process. Basically, you prop the door/flap open and hold a treat on the other side of the door. The dog will go through the (open) door. Repeat this process several times and then try it without having the doors/flap proped open.
