Your tone of voice is an important factor in communicating with your canine. When training, it is important to project confidence - after all, you are the designated leader in your dog's life. Speak clearly, and enunciate when teaching your dog a command. If your dog is successful at learning a new trick or behaving well, let her know it. Use a cheerful upbeat tone to praise her. On the other hand, if your dog is jumping on houseguests and you're trying to curb her from it, use a sharp tone to say, "No!" In general, refrain from an unnecessary display of anger or shouting. You won't get your message across and will only confuse your dog instead.
